Jenner: Small Town Shopping Tour
By Vesta Copestakes

Not that there's a lot going on in Jenner, but that's part of the joy of being there. This is where the Russian River flows into the Pacific Ocean, so the terrain opens to broad expanses of water and stunning sunsets. On the right you'll find Jenner Inn and Cottages, which also has a restaurant. A good combination is dinner here with fine wine, then slip into your cottage for a cozy night's sleep. River's End restaurant is at the top of the hill overlooking the ocean and Jenner Vacation Rentals is "downtown" Jenner next to Seagull Gifts and Emma's Café, so you have options. Seagull Gifts is one of those fun touristy shops that is especially delightful for children. In winter, they are open Thursday through Sunday only. And Emma's is a coffee shop and café that opened this year and has a reputation for excellent clam chowder. Peaceful is what Jenner is all about.
And when you head back to Route One to go south, if you're hungry, think about stopping for tandoori chicken and lentil soup at Sizzling Tandoor which has vast windows overlooking the river. This place is a long-time tradition for me. I just love it.
Wind your way along the Coast Hwy as you head south. Whatever you do, don't just drive past every beach entrance and turn-off. Make sure you pick at least one, get out of the car and smell the sea. If you have chosen one with a path to the beach, take it. I don't know how often you go to the coast, but for most people, it's a special occasion even though we live nearby. We know it's out there! Just waiting for our us! This is the time to enjoy it.
